Welcome from the Principal

Picture
Lumen Christi is an authentically Catholic learning community that is dedicated to providing the very best opportunities for the young people of Delacombe. The Gospel calls us to welcome all and to provide the very best for all.The educational journey of Lumen Christi Primary School is one of transformation – a journey through which we are changed, those around us are changed and our world is changed. Lumen Christi- Latin for ‘Light of Christ’, calls us as members of the school community to be the 'Light of Christ' to others.
Lumen Christi is a place where academic rigour is developed through rich relationships, deep integrity, lifelong learning and extraordinary care for its children. There is a commitment to whole school improvement and an enthusiasm in approaching the many new initiatives and increasingly complex demands of learning in a contemporary environment.

In recognising that the family is the most significant influence upon a child, we see learning as ongoing partnership between home and school. Both the School Advisory Council and the Parents and Friends provide practical support and assistance in furthering the growth of the school. Our Pastoral Care program is not just limited to assisting school students but extends to providing practical and emotional support to families as the need arises.

Lumen Christi is a Professional Learning Community
Our teachers place students at the centre of the learning process. We share the belief that effective learning takes place when positive relationships are developed in an atmosphere that balances challenge with support. Students learn in an environment where trusting relationships allow for risks to be taken and mistakes to be made and learnt from.

We believe that engaging the students in purposeful learning experiences is our prime responsibility. High quality classroom teaching provides flexible and adaptable approaches and strategies to enable students to construct meaning and build understandings.

The very essence of a ‘Professional Learning Community’ is a focus on and a commitment to the learning of each student. The core mission of a PLC is to ensure not simply that students are taught but to ensure they learn.

We have a belief that all students can learn. It means providing quality curriculum, researching interventions for students who are not learning and seeking enrichment for students who need extending.

A Professional Learning Community is based on three Big Ideas.
These are:
  • A focus on Student Learning
  • A culture of Collaboration
  • A focus on results

At Lumen Christi we endeavour to meet the learning needs of all our students ensuring they learn to their full potential and improve our whole school results. Extra support staff for Literacy & Numeracy is provided to facilitate further assistance in these key areas.
Promoting students’ social and emotional skills is critical to improving their academic performance and their success in life. Students, who are happy in themselves, relate well to others and are motivated to learn, achieve better academically and create positive relationships with their teachers, family and classmates. Students with better developed social and emotional skills are more likely to demonstrate higher levels of resilience, learning capacity, social skills and values.

At Lumen Christi we have developed the acronym SHINE as our approach to Positive Behaviour In School.  SHINE  is a proactive school-wide system of support for defining, teaching, and supporting appropriate student behaviours to create a positive school wide environment.

              Being Safe
                         Having Respect
                          Including Others

Never giving up

Excellence
All of the above is achieved in a partnership between staff, students and parents. It is the quality of this partnership that we are most proud of.

On behalf of the Staff, Parish Priest, School Council and School Community I would like to extend to you and your child a very warm welcome and hope that your time at Lumen Christi  is enjoyable and valuable.
                                                                                                                                                                   Murray Macdonald - Principal
